82-Year Old Woman Sues YMCA, Port Townsend WA Over Pool Ban, Smears
City manager is named in litigation
Julie Jaman, now 82, is suing the YMCA and Port townsend, Washington over her lifetime ban from the city pool. Attorneys for Jaman filed the lawsuit on 12 June, according to local reporter Annette Huenke.
The Distance helped bring international attention to Jaman’s story in 2022.
As Jaman was showering after her laps in the pool, she was startled by the voice of a man named Clementine Adams.
Adams, who identified as transgender, was alone with the girls in violation of YMCA policy. He was helping a group of “four or five” grade school girls remove their swimsuits in order to pee.
As the Center for American Liberty recalled in their letter to the city of Port Townsend in March, “Jaman was startled by Adams’s presence in the women’s locker room and believed that she might be witnessing a crime in progress.”
Jaman asked Adams, “Do you have a penis?” Adams responded, “None of your business,” after which Jaman said, “Get out of here!”
