Speaking to news reporters yesterday, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Staff Sgt. Kris Clark would not release the name of the “gunperson” for “privacy reasons”

Jesse Van Rootselaar, a 17-year-old transgender-identified man who also went by Jesse Strang, killed nine people and wounded 25 yesterday in one of the worst mass shootings in Canadian history.

Van Rootselaar reportedly killed his gender-affirming mother and 11 year-old brother before entering Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia to continue his murder spree. He then took his own life.

Because he identified as transgender, Van Rootselaar was initially described as a “woman in a dress” in emergency police warnings to shelter in place. Resulting confusion may have added to the toll of deaths and injuries. Don’t hold your breath waiting for accountability on this one.
