Dr. Polly Carmichael Elevates 'Trans Suicide' On Eve Of Final Cass Review
Such is her desire to sterilize autistic, mentally ill, and abused kids
The long-awaited final Cass Review, a systematic medical review of the ‘gender affirmation’ experiment that has been conducted on the minds and bodies of children in the UK, will finally be released on Wednesday. Dr. Hilary Cass has reportedly concluded that “children who believe they are transgender may actually have mental health issues,” according to the Telegraph.
The final report will “urge extreme caution over the use of drugs such as puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to facilitate this, even once someone is over 18 years old.” Furthermore, “the report will find that children who think they are trans disproportionately have mental health issues such as a difficult family situation or having suffered from abuse. They are also more likely to be neurodiverse.”
With such a damning indictment of the activist approach arriving imminently, the activists running the Guardian are trying to change the subject through their reporting the suicide of a neurodiverse, bullied, mentally ill young woman in what reporter Robin Vinter admits was an “understaffed” hospital ward.
Bear in mind that this happened four years ago.
The strategy here is self-evident and frankly repugnant. In the midst of a very bad news cycle for “gender affirmation” more generally, and for the pediatric sex trait modification cult in particular, the inquest for Charlie Millers is being spun as a tale of woe and “misgendendering” by hospital staff who tried to keep the poor girl grounded in reality.
They were doing right by her on that point. “The [Cass] review is also believed to conclude that if you allow a very young child to socially transition they are more likely to grow up to have a fixed trans identity later in life, rather than their gender distress being resolved by other means,” the Telegraph reports.
Millers, 17, was “the third young person to die at the understaffed hospital in less than a year,” Vintner reports. The Rochdale coroner’s court remarked that Millers “felt ‘worthless’ and ‘could not think of anything positive about [herself]’ shortly before [she] died,” indicating that Millers was subject to constant questioning about her mental state.
As Abigail Shrier explains in her most recent book, this kind of well-meaning approach to suicidality can actually promote rumination and ideation about suicide.
Rather than start a discussion about the role of misguided policy, or the mental health crisis among western youth, or the shambolic state of the underfunded and understaffed National Health Service, however, witness Dr. Polly Carmichael, former head of the Tavistock clinic, blamed lack of access to sterilizing drugs for this tragedy.
Puberty blockers are in fact sterilizing drugs and new information about that fact is emerging all the time. The harms include “different outcomes in testicular development, including the degeneration of testicular tissues” in boys, according to a forthcoming Mayo clinic study. Earlier studies have shown increased risk of osteoporosis in children on puberty blockers, especially girls.
Polly Carmichael also handed out puberty blockers on an assembly line at Tavistock, where the children she sterilized were also disproportionately autistic, abused, and mentally ill. Activist staff at the GIDS clinic extorted parents into agreeing to puberty blockers using the supposed elevated suicide risk.
Dr. Carmichael has a massive conflict of interest delivering pseudoscientific testimony in any case such as this one. Coroner’s courts are not adversarial, meaning that she avoids the risk of effective cross-examination by spewing this nonsense in such a venue. She could not get away with this under cross-examination by an effective trial lawyer.
She is selling snake oil. As the American College of Pediatricians notes, puberty blockers not only cannot resolve mental illness, they actually seem to increase the risks of self-harm.
“In fact, the package insert for Lupron, the number one prescribed puberty blocker in America, lists ‘emotional instability’ as a side effect and warns prescribers to ‘Monitor for development or worsening of psychiatric symptoms during treatment.’”
The facts that Millers “was autistic and struggled to articulate [her] feelings were preventing [her] from being able to access puberty blockers to treat [her] gender dysphoria,” Carmichael said in her ethics-free testimony, according to Vintner.
She said there were “various references in our notes to difficulty putting words to [her] feelings” and that [her] mental health would have needed to be stable before [she] could access drugs.
She added: “For young people with autism, that would without doubt slow down the process.”
Charlie had complained about how slow [her] treatment was, she said, and she added that it was a “tragic reality” that Charlie was facing having to be treated at the adult service because [she] was 17, which would have made care more difficult to access.
Millers, who was found unresponsive and died five days later of a brain injury, “struggled with self-worth for years” due to bullying at school, Carmichael said.
Indeed, we need only look at her picture to imagine that Millers was likely teased for being ginger as well as autistic. However, Carmichael takes Millers’ “difficulty putting words to [her] feelings” as evidence that she was tortured by the desire to change sex rather than, say, alter her hair color, or better cope with her autism, or just not get bullied by her peers.
An autistic girl could not say herself that she wanted to be a boy, Carmichael says, but she still believes it to be true, because Carmichael is a believer. She truly, deeply, madly believes in the so-called “trans child.” It is more real to her than autism or mental illness.
Vintner dutifully records that Charlie Millers was a “trans boy” as if this was an observable fact rather than Carmichael’s self-interested opinion as a magician.
Of course, what this Guardian story actually promotes is the normalization of suicide among gender-confused youth. Since abuse, self-harm behaviors, internalized homophobia, and other mental health problems that are comorbid with ‘gender identity’ increase suicide risk, that will not be hard to do.
The Polly Carmichaels of the world have spent years predicting their victims would kill themselves unless they were rushed down a medicalization pathway. Tavistock activist clinicians presented chemical castration as a panacea for the travails of adolescence.
Now they are promoting fake news about alleged “trans kids” who fulfill this prophecy for them.
They know that their target demographic will eat it up and then spit out ten thousand TikToks.
They understand that social contagion is involved in spreading all things “trans,” including suicide.
They know that suicide is already contagious, especially in youth.
They are counting on it.
They are counting on the “trans kids” to discuss the supposed inevitability of their own suicide to literal death, and ruminate about suicide to actual death, until they perform the sacred ritual and die.
They want to punish us all for cutting off their sickening experiment.
They don’t want evidence-based care for vulnerable young people. They want to save our children from us, and if they can’t have that then they will settle for dead kids, so they can say that they were right.
The more martyrs there are, the better for their public acts of piety, i.e. their witnessing.
We don't want to join your weird castration cult, Polly!
