Gary Powell: Genderism is ‘not just a political ideology, it’s a fundamentalist religion'
Writer for The Distance appears on GB News
Longtime gay rights campaigner and writer Gary Powell appeared on television in the United Kingdom last Friday to talk about Halifax Bank.
Last week, the bank issued pronoun badges and told customers to close their accounts if they disliked it. Thousands of customers have reportedly followed the advice of the bank’s Twitter account by ending their relationship with the institution.
According to the Daily Mail, one account holder and his family have already pulled £450,000 of savings and investments from Halifax bank.
One branding expert compared Halifax bank’s Twitter account to Gerald Ratner, the British CEO who almost tanked his jewelry company with a speech calling his own products “total crap.”
“There was a time when the customer came first,” Powell said. The bank’s reaction to Twitter respondents was especially frustrating. “I thought that was a very high-handed and arrogant response from a business.”
"I was very pleased to be invited to the studios of GB News in London today, to be interviewed by Nana Akua on gender ideology, banks, and preferred pronouns on employee badges," Powell tells The Distance.
Powell, who will begin writing for The Distance in the near future, did not actually say the phrase “go woke, go broke,” but it certainly applies.
Genderism is a New Age belief system that has been discursively constructed around the supposed existence of invisible ‘gender identities.’ Applied to schools and businesses, ‘gender identity’ overthrows the rights of women and girls as well as all normal child safeguarding measures.
During the segment, Powell — a Bow Group Research Fellow for Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity (SOGI) — talked about the pernicious effects of gender identity ideology on young gay men and lesbian women as well as autistic children.
Discussion of these urgent topics has been impossible on most media outlets. Powell was able to talk about them at length, without interruption, with an unbiased anchor.
Genderism is “not just an ideology,” Powell noted, but “a fundamentalist religion.”
If you disagree with it, or if you express any dissent, then people will try to destroy your life. They will try to cancel you, they will try to destroy your business, they will even try to undermine your family life if they can, and this is what really happens in totalitarian states that impose a religion on people, whether it’s a kind of theistic religion, or whether it’s a political religion, like Marxism.
