Mayor, Police Bear Responsibility for Port Townsend, WA Mobbing of Elderly Women
Such progressive, much woke
Conservative writer and vlogger Robert R. Zerfing, aka “The Common Sense Conservative,” was in Port Townsend Monday to witness and record events as a mob of angry men kettled and assaulted a smaller group, mainly women in their 70s and 80s, against a brick wall. (Click through the video to find his information in the description.)
Instigated by the mayor and members of the city council, the crowd turned violent as police stood by doing nothing. According to witnesses, police cited “instructions” and stood by watching the violence unfold in front of them.

In this clip, one policeman can be heard telling someone to let the participants in the press conference know that they are “free to leave” if they “feel unsafe.” At least three people called 911 to report the emergency before police reluctantly took action.
Various parties are making public records requests under Washington state sunshine laws to determine how many callers were enough to finally embarrass Chief Tom Olson into doing something.
In a press release last night, organizer Amy Sousa called out the Port Townsend Police Department’s Uvalde-esque inaction, saying they had prior intelligence of “out of town agitators who were there with the intent to victimize.”
Event organizers were told by a Port Townsend police officer this week that his “...highest priority was concern for the loss of life.” When asked if the agitators among the estimated 350 protesters had guns, he said, “Yes. They had batons, pepper spray and appeared to be carrying concealed firearms.” The officer, who helped RevFoxx Co-Founder Jennifer Thomas file assault charges against one of the main agitators wishes to remain unnamed. He confirmed that several felony assault charges have been laid.

Despite pre-event assurances from Port Townsend Police Chief, Tom Olson that the group comprised primarily of seniors and sexual assault survivors would be kept apart from protesters, he watched from across the street while the women were repeatedly assaulted by men who had penterated a human chain they had formed to protect event speakers, even forcing their way between women’s legs.

The Distance has also confirmed that a man in the crowd assaulted and menaced an African American woman with a sexualized racist threat. To be clear, he is not the man with the dog and the rope leash tied like a noose that we reported earlier this week.
However, that man can be seen in Mr. Zerfing’s video. He is greeting a friend whose behavior stands out for aggressive mania. According to people at the scene he was odiferous and dirty. Two itinerants meet to harass old ladies for fun, whee!
A composite video of the Port Townsend events is in production. Further details are forthcoming.
Other record requests are also in progress.
Washington state law will not allow the YMCA to continue their fraudulent campaign of character assassination against Julie Jaman.
The 80 year-old woman who objected to a man in the shower area while she was naked and became the central figure in this controversy has been subject to smears in the media and in council meetings.
According to one participant, some police officers have expressed regret for what transpired last Monday. Many are ex-military men and their sense of honor is strong.
We recommend that the mayor take counsel from the history of praetorians. Pissing off your protection is a basic mobster error.
Anger at either of the two apparently-homeless men spotlighted by The Distance is also misplaced. Mayor David J. Faber has a reputation for popularity with exacly this demographic.
We are far less interested in their identities than understanding why they were present in the first place. According to Sousa,
Faber also follows and has tweeted support of School Board Bloc, a Washington-based organization that describes itself as “Antifascist,” and that recruited agitators to attend the Let Julie Swim rally. On the eve of the event, they tweeted “It would be a shame if something happened to that sound system” moments before the sound and live feed were temporarily disabled.
Of course, in our hyper-partisan media environment, only “conservative” and “right wing” outlets are making much of all this just yet. Mainstream media is mainly trying to ignore the Port Townsend story altogether. That will not last.

Captured media is of course spreading a narrative that Julie Jaman hates all transgender people and just waited with bated breath for her entire 80-year lifespan to harass one in person.
YMCA spokespeople have fed this frenzy. All of them will end up looking very, very bad when the entire truth stands stark naked. Of all the parties in this story, evidence of a longstanding grudge only exists for the Y and the city against Julie Jaman. More on that story as it develops.

Here at The Distance, we regard contemporary American politics as a barrier to understanding and the possibility of truth. That principle serves us well in covering this story.
The more we learn about the truth of Port Townsend, the worse the picture gets for everyone who participated in monstering Julie Jaman. Truth and consequences are coming.
