Lydia McLaughlin was a standard California liberal mom living in the greater Los Angeles area when she discovered that her daughter was being groomed into transgender ideation and identification. Her child was suffering from cognitive dissonance, becoming one person at school and another at home.
The school discouraged an inconvenient diagnosis, anxiety, but encouraged both dysphoria and diagnosis of dysphoria that split the child’s mind and threatened to split the family. It was a hard fight to make them stop, but Lydia McLaughlin did make them stop. Now she wants to make parents great again.
Do not overreact. Stay connected to your child. Do things together that have nothing to do with gender. Remove the child from their normal surroundings. Ask questions that provoke thought. Do not affirm. Hold a firm line on medicalization. Insist on transparency in their online activities. Insist on clear boundaries.
These are lessons from parents caught up in the transgender youth craze that are found in books on the topic. But the biggest lesson of Lydia McLaughlin’s story is: LAWYER UP. Find an aggressive attorney. Set clear boundaries with the system and enforce your boundaries.
