Any attorney who advises their client to feign a trans identity in order to get them favorable sentencing terms to get them sent to a women's prison must automatically be disbarred if their client rapes an inmate, full stop.

We need a federal law keeping people in prisons that match their biological sex, completely irrespective of their state of transition.

The ACLU defending male rapists in women's prisons has definitely been part my peaking. I agree Matt, peaking is an ongoing process. Just when I think I cannot be further shocked...In 2021 I was inspired by the words of Tomiekia Johnson to write a song about this issue. As Genevieve Gluck reports on so doggedly, she and many other women in prison continue to endure these horrific conditions. I correspond with Tomiekia regularly and it has only gotten worse. I wrote the song to communicate with "progressive" people in my life, but it fell on deaf ears. I STILL cannot understand why. Except that as you say, nobody cares about women in prison and the ACLU knows this. "Women rape too," is the most common refrain. It is so sickening. These women deserve our defense, and their words and experiences must be amplified. Here is Tomiekia's Song: https://youtu.be/vD8OyxVTCdk

This is insane, but one can see the roots of it in the culture as early as July 2013, when "Orange is the New Black" premiered, and then depicted a trans woman in the prison population in September of that year. Laverne Cox made the cover of TIME magazine a year later, and her sympathetic character was embedded in the public consciousness without any debate.

I would just like to point out that the ACLU has been a shit organization for a long time. They had no problem defending Nazis parading through Jewish neighborhoods, but they refused to defend Americans who lost their jobs and a lot else because of their political beliefs, turning a blind eye to McCarthyism and its noxious effects.
