Transgenderism has reached the peak of political power, as well as social and economic currency, in less than a decade. Reactions to this change have been diverse, and explanations for it have largely been non-ideological, offering a profusion of narratives that can be demonstrated and tested. Social science, social media, and society all deserve examination as causes and contributors.
Here at The Distance, we have chosen to examine “gender identity” through the historical lens of faith formation. We understand “trans women are women” to be an explicit statement of gnostic faith. Almost all discussions of the “science” behind transgender identities are therefore wasted breath and electrons, because “gender affirmation” is not medicine at all, it is magic.
Psychology has always suffered by imagining itself as a science of the soul and “gender identities” are simply psychotherapeutic patent medicine fraud: God in a hormone shot. If the reader is skeptical of that statement, then they should endure a few hours of TikTok kids expressing rapture and euphoria while they poison themselves.
Our approach to understanding the transgender phenomenon has begun to gather steam in gender critical spaces. Leaders such as Kellie-Jay Keen routinely use the word “cult” now in order to name and describe Genderism as they encounter it. We hope that our work has contributed to this trend. Henceforth we will collect examples of the phenomenon in subscriber-only posts.
