Great essay! Pit yourself against nature as humans have been doing at ever-accelerating speed since the Industrial Revolution and nature will always win.

That said, I will take issue with "No one enjoys adolescence. It is awkward, dangerous, and full of terrors." My adolescence was not awkward or dangerous or full of terrors despite my mother choosing to turn our family life into utter chaos. She dragged me all over hell's half acre and I just went, facing a new school at least once a year if not two or three times. What had I been given? A lot of love and attention as a baby and toddler, not just my mother but my two older sisters. I was very independent and innocent, and I just waited at each new school to make friends. No one I knew seemed particularly tortured including my two best friends in ninth grade who were called lesbians (one was, one wasn't, and did the idiots saying this even know what a lesbians was?).
